Hey it’s Monday night Omaha.

There was a show last night and maybe by the time I get around to finishing this it will actually be a show that happened the night before last night..

It was really good and I had a lot of fun.

I had a lot of fun in Omaha which at times seems hard to come by. Yes, there are a lot of great local bands to go see but there are only so many and when they keep playing week after week it gets a bit tiresome and kind of feels more like an obligation than it does going out and having fun.

I heard there was a “rock show” at Slowdown; I got curious and rolled out of bed. I didn’t really bother to find out what was up or text anyone because it’s Omaha and there’s only so many things it could be but still I was excited. I sped down Cumming street to the venue. I saw a lot of people I normally see, I saw a lot of friends I only see sporadically, and I saw a lot of people I didn’t know. The place became more and more crowded as the minutes flew by. I kept over hearing people in the crowd say things like “I  just heard about this 10 minutes ago, I seriously sped through a red light to get here” and that’s when I really started to get excited. There were so many people in the crowd who were genuinely excited about the music and the band, not just about being where the “creative” people in Omaha were at or about being at a “secret” show- they were just excited about the music.

I got giddy myself and the band delivered. It was raw and it was good.

I don’t know if I would say it was monumental but I definitely would say that it was legit and it made feel refreshed about the Omaha music scene.

Every single person in the band impressed me.

I know that there are a handful of bands in Omaha right now that I hope to see prosper in the next year so that 10 years down the road I can see another great show like this one.

Oh yeah, the band was Desaparecidos. Currently including: Matt Baum, Denver Dalley, Conor Oberst, Landon Hedges, and Ian McElroy.

I’m really glad I got to see this.
