Summer in Omaha

It’s been too long since I posted. What have I been up to? Eating and drinking of course (and trying to stay cool and sane during this crazy heat wave).

Gin! Gin and tonics are great during the summer because they are nice and crisp. During the summer strawberries are plentiful and cheap. I slice them down the middle and squeeze the juice into the drink then plop the fruit in. It makes the drink a tad sweeter plus at the end you get to eat gin-fused strawberries.

Block 16 recently became one of my favorite places to eat. It’s sort of a gastro pub. It’s bar type food but more conscious and upscale. I love it. If you go during your lunch break expect the narrowly laid out establishment to be crammed with yuppies from the downtown area. It has a great hustle and bustle vibe.

The neighbor upstairs roasts his own coffee beans. He gave us this large glass jar that was over 1/2 full of coffee beans. The aroma was amazing.  We went through it rather fast. In the summer i’m a huge fan of making homemade iced coffee. I just experiment with different coffees and milk types (almond, chocolate, etc). Sometimes it’s just way too hott for regular style coffee.

I also started substituting coffee for water in certain recipes (brownies mainly).

During the summer long hair can get sun damaged and icky as well as making you feel extra sticky. PULL IT UP and wash it every other day. There are plenty of fast, easy, and classic ways to wear your hair up so save yourself the misery.
